Call for Presentations

​​We invite faculty, professionals, students, residents, and trainees to submit oral and poster presentations for Teaching Prevention 2025: Building a Healthy Future Through Collaboration, Research, and Education. Presenting offers the opportunity to build your professional network with academic, clinical, research, and community prevention professionals and contribute to the advancement of the field by sharing innovative approaches and impactful practices. 

Teaching Prevention fosters a rich exchange of insights, a space for idea-sharing, creative thinking, and building a supportive, vibrant community.  This is your chance to engage with a diverse audience, inspire collaboration, and help shape the future of prevention teaching and research.

Oral Presentations - Educators, Researchers, and Practitioners

These presentations must be planned, led, and presented by faculty and/or professionals but can include student/trainee participation.

Seminar
30-minute presentation including discussion and/or Q & A. Two seminar presentations will be grouped to form a larger 60-minute session, Projects and initiatives should be completed or well underway and not be in the early brainstorming or early implementation stages. Interactivity with attendees is strongly encouraged.  

Roundtable
25-minute presentations presented two-times in succession as attendees move between sessions. This format allows attendees to engage with presenters in a small group format. Presentations may include ideas in development that are relevant to the conference theme. A roundtable might provide an opportunity for collective problem solving of an identified challenge. The abstract submission should include a summary describing the problem or issue, its significance, the questions to be posed, and a plan for engaging the participants.

Workshop
90-minute activity that engages the participants in facilitated activities and exercises to increase the participants’ competence or understanding in a particular area. This presentation is generally focused on skill-building. When submitting your presentation proposal please indicate your workshop objectives, agenda, and engagement strategies.

Student and Trainees

10-minute presentations, including Q&A. Students/trainees who submit a poster are encouraged to submit their posters for consideration for an Oral Lightning Round presentation. The “lightning” presentation shares experience, knowledge, and research on a subject that expands on a student poster presentation topic.

Poster Presentations – ​Educators, Researchers, and Practitioners

APTR invites faculty, researchers, and professionals to submit for the annual APTR poster session. Submissions related to any of the focus areas are encouraged. Presentations that fall outside of these four focus areas but align with the conference theme are also welcome.

Presenters are required to display their printed posters on poster boards during the Poster Presentation and Welcome Reception on the evening of Monday, March 10, 2025. The Poster Presentation format facilitates one-on-one and small group discussions with colleagues.  Once accepted, poster presenters will be required to upload a PDF version of their poster for viewing by attendees in the conference app.

Students and Trainees

APTR invites students, residents, and trainees to submit proposals for the annual APTR poster session. Submissions related to any of the focus areas are encouraged. Presentations that fall outside of the focus areas but align with the conference theme are also welcome.

Student/Trainee Lightning Round Presentations
Students are encouraged to submit their posters for consideration for an Oral Lightning Round presentation. The “lightning” presentation shares experience, knowledge, and research on a subject that expands on a student poster presentation topic (10 minutes, including Q&A).

​Student Poster Awards
Student posters will be evaluated by faculty objective reviewers for award consideration. Three (3) award winners will be announced during the annual APTR luncheon.

Review Criteria

Notifications will be made no later than December 11, 2024. APTR will communicate with the designated Lead Presenter for all communications, including notifications and deadlines. It is the responsibility of the Lead Presenter to share information as needed with co-presenters. ​An APTR review committee will complete reviews of proposals and make recommendations. Each abstract submitted for consideration will be reviewed based on the following criteria:

Relevance to the Conference Goals and Attendees    |        oral; poster
  • Does the abstract align with the overall goals of Teaching Prevention 2025 and the conference's focus on promoting population health through teaching, research, evaluation, and practice? Does it address topics of interest to the attendees?
Significance and Contribution  |   oral; poster
  • Does the abstract present ideas or approaches that contribute to advancing teaching, research, or practice in prevention and public health? How significant is the potential impact of the presented work on the field?
Clarity and Organization  |  oral; poster
  • Is the abstract clearly written and well-organized? Are the objectives, methodology, and conclusions easy to follow and well-expressed?
Methodology and Rigor   |  oral (seminar, workshop); poster
  • Are the methods or approaches clearly described and appropriate for the objectives? Does the abstract provide sufficient detail on the process, research design, or evaluation framework used?
Results and Outcomes   |   oral (seminar, workshop); poster
  • Does the abstract present specific outcomes, conclusions, or implications? Are the results clearly stated, and do they support the objectives of the abstract?
Engagement and Applicability   |    oral
  • Will the presentation engage the audience and foster discussion, collaboration, or practical application? Does the abstract suggest ways the work could be applied in educational, clinical, or community settings?

​Overall Score: Each criterion will be scored on a scale of 1 (poor) to 5 (excellent), and the total score will be used to determine acceptance.​

 General Information

  • ​​Abstracts MUST be submitted online. Abstracts emailed or submitted via any other method will NOT be accepted.
  • No fees are required to submit a proposal and APTR membership is not required.
  • Individuals may submit a maximum of two proposals per conference.
  • Abstract presenters are required to register to confirm their intention to present.
  • All presenters and co-presenters must register and pay for the Teaching Prevention conference, or their presentation will be withdrawn.
  • APTR does not pay per diem, honoraria, or expenses for abstract presenters.
  • Each abstract presenter is responsible for their registration fee(s) as well as all other costs related to attending the meeting.
  • The lead presenter is ultimately responsible for sharing all pertinent information with co-presenters, including notifications and deadlines.
  • APTR cannot accommodate presentation scheduling requests.
  • Commercially focused/vendor promotional/sales proposals will not be considered. Presenters may not use their conference presentation to market any products or services.
  • Each presenter is required to disclose any financial arrangements or affiliations with any organizations that may have a direct interest in the subject matter of the presentation.
  • Presenters are required to prepare their own handouts and materials for participants.
  • Accepted presentation summaries for oral and poster presentations will be posted on the Teaching Prevention meeting website of the Association for Prevention Teaching and Research.
  • Each session room will be equipped with a laptop, data projector, speakers, and screen.
