The Association for Prevention Teaching and Research (APTR) is the national professional association dedicated to advancing individual and community health promotion and disease prevention in the education of physicians and other health professionals. on July 31, 1942 the founding members of the association met to discuss and plan for a meeting of those representing the schools in the field of prevention education and research. The minutes state that the aim of this meeting
“would be to promote fuller acquaintanceship among the men and women, full and part‑time, who teach hygiene, preventive medicine and public health in the medical schools of the U.S. and Canada. This group is the most heterogeneous group in one field in all of medical education. It would seem highly desirable for such professional personnel to meet in common assembly and discover together the problems involved and the advances accomplished in their common field”.
We continue to gather members from across the health professions with this purpose in mind.
