A Tradition of Advancing Prevention Education

Since its first meeting in 1942, the Association for Prevention Teaching and Research (APTR) has convened educators, researchers, practitioners, and learners annually to advance the teaching of prevention and population health. Teaching Prevention has evolved alongside the fields of public health and health professions education, providing a forum for colleagues from across disciplines and institutions to exchange ideas, share educational innovations and research, and address emerging issues affecting education and the health of individuals and communities.

Over the years, the meeting has brought together leaders and emerging voices from academic institutions, health systems, government agencies, community organizations, and other settings. While the topics and challenges have changed, the meeting's focus has remained consistent: strengthening education and preparing the health workforce to improve population health.
