We invite members and non-members to submit abstracts for oral and poster presentations at Teaching Prevention 2024: Advancing Population Health Across Disciplines, the 86th annual conference of the Association for Prevention Teaching and Research (APTR). This interdisciplinary meeting focuses on the knowledge, skills, collaborations, and resources needed to teach, practice, and promote population health.
Presenting at Teaching Prevention provides an opportunity to build your network of academic, research, and clinical prevention professionals. APTR represents individual faculty, students, and academic units advancing prevention and population health.

Focus Areas
Submissions related to any of the following focus areas are welcome. Presentations that fall outside of these focus areas but align with the conference theme are invited. We encourage abstracts on issues impacting society and health, including health equity, inclusion, diversity, and health justice.
General Information
- Abstracts MUST be submitted online. Abstracts emailed or submitted via any other method will NOT be accepted.
- The following fields in the abstract submission form will have a combined word limit of 500: Background and purpose; Methods; Results; and Conclusion.
- No fees are required to submit a proposal and APTR membership is not required.
- Individuals may submit a maximum of two proposals per conference as the only, or lead, presenter but may participate in additional sessions as panel participants.
- Abstract presenters are required to register to confirm their intention to present. All presenters and co-presenters must register and pay for the Teaching Prevention conference, or their presentation will be withdrawn.
- APTR does not pay per diem, honoraria, or expenses for abstract presenters.
- Each abstract presenter is responsible for their registration fee(s) as well as all other costs related to attending the meeting.
- The lead presenter is responsible for sharing all pertinent information with co-presenters, including notifications and deadlines.
- APTR cannot accommodate presentation scheduling requests.
- Commercially focused/vendor promotional/sales proposals will not be considered. Presenters may not use their conference presentation to market any products or services.
- Each presenter is required to disclose any financial arrangements or affiliations with any organizations that may have a direct interest in the subject matter of the presentation.
- Presenters are required to prepare their own handouts and materials for participants.
- Accepted presentation summaries for oral and poster presentations will be posted on the Teaching Prevention meeting website of the Association for Prevention Teaching and Research.
- Each session room will be equipped with a laptop, data projector, speakers, and screen.

Review Criteria

Oral Presentations - Educators, Researchers, and Practitioners
Panel
30-minute presentation including discussion and/or Q & A. Presentations will be grouped to form a larger session. Projects and initiatives should be completed or well underway and not be in the early brainstorming or early implementation stages.
Seminar
45-minute stand-alone presentation on collaborative work, including discussion and/or Q & A. Projects and initiatives should be completed or well underway and not be in the early brainstorming or early implementation stages. The Lead Presenter is responsible for coordinating the panel presentations in advance.
Roundtable
20-minute presentations presented two-times in succession as attendees move between sessions. This format allows attendees to engage with presenters in a small group format. Presentations may include ideas in development that are relevant to the conference theme. A roundtable might provide an opportunity for collective problem solving of an identified challenge. The abstract submission should include a summary describing the problem or issue, its significance, the questions to be posed, and a plan for engaging the participants.
Workshop
60-minute activity that engages the participants in facilitated activities and exercises to increase the participants’ competence or understanding in a particular area. This presentation is generally focused on skill-building. When submitting your presentation proposal please indicate your workshop objectives, agenda, and engagement strategies.

Student
Poster Presentations – Faculty & Student
Posters provide the opportunity to display research studies, practicum projects, or outcomes of educational or curricular projects pertinent to prevention and population health. Presenters are required to display their printed posters on poster boards during the Poster Presentation and Welcome Reception on the evening of Monday, March 11, 2024. The Poster Presentation format facilitates one-on-one and small group discussions with colleagues. Once accepted, poster presenters will be required to upload a PDF version of their poster for viewing by attendees in the conference app.
Student Poster Awards
Student posters will be evaluated by faculty objective reviewers and three (3) award winners will be announced during the annual luncheon on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.
Student Lightning Round Presentations
Students are encouraged to submit their poster for consideration of an Oral Lightning Round presentation. This format is intended to share experience and knowledge on a subject that expands on their student poster presentation topic. (10 minutes including Q&A).

Review Criteria
- An APTR review committee will complete reviews of proposals and make recommendations.
- Notifications will be made no later than January 4, 2024.
- It is the responsibility of the Lead Presenter to share information as needed with co-presenters.
- You may be invited to present in a format other than the format you requested.
