On July 31, 1942 the founding members of the association met to discuss and plan for a meeting of those representing the schools in the field of prevention education and research. We continue to gather members from across the health professions with this purpose in mind. Teaching Prevention is the annual meeting of the Association for Prevention Teaching and Research (APTR). APTR, founded in 1942, is the national membership association bringing together individuals and institutions devoted to health promotion and disease prevention to redefine how we educate the health professions workforce. Members include graduate public health programs, preventive medicine programs, medical school departments with a population health focus, health professions schools, faculty and students advancing prevention and public health education, training, and research.
